So I am sitting here watching the snow fall outside my window and getting ready for an “arctic deep freeze” and a big snowstorm this weekend so naturally my thoughts come to soup.
Yay!! So glad you liked it and yes to lime being the secret sauce. Acid really helps soup pop 😘 did you use lentils or split peas? Hope they agreed with you 🍈
We enjoyed this delicious soup tonight in front of the fire. It was chunky (the way my husband likes it) and the spices were perfect! I used the red lentils and smashed the sweet potatoes a bit in the pot. I reminded me of a soup version of a delicious sweet potato and lentil shepherds pie that I love to make. It was indeed very comforting tonight. Grateful to you, Ali!
Thank you so much Sophie for the feedback. So glad you and your hubby enjoyed it. And yes to the shepherds pie. I make one as well. Also yummy! Glad to provide some comfort and connection!
Hi Ali, Thanks for your note and sharing the recipe. Just what I needed in these times. I like to make soup too and this sounds so warming and comforting.
This Sweet Potato Lentil soup sounds SO delicious, I can't wait to make it. Love the spice tips-- I have followed in my grandmother's footsteps and if spices aren't from the garden fresh, I seem to keep the jars forever (I still have some of her old spice jars from the 1950s!). I adore soup of every kind. In fact, I might do a soup post myself I'm so inspired. Ali, I would love to know when you first made this soup.
Thanks Pia. Glad this inspired you and brought back memories of your grandmother. I certainly hope only the jars are from the 1950s and not the spices !!! I make soup so often and every time is different, so I have no idea when I first made this, but I am sure it was a cold day!
YUMMY! Thank you so much Ali for sharing this recipe and your pro tips! I love soups, and I need a new one to mix things up. I can't wait to make this one. Thanks again. :)
That soup looks really tasty. Soup is such a good way to get veggies into me, as it can be an effort for me to eat enough vegetables. Tell that snow to think about moving west.
I love your advise about adding acid! I ALWAYS add some kind of citrus, vinegar etc...split pea soup demands red wine vinegar! Today on the menu, making SW black bean and smoked turkey wing soup with lots of fresh peppers and spices and of course finished with lime juice and cilantro, with a pickled JALAPENO & CHEDDAR cornbread.... Stay warm!
Wow! I have been making red lentil soup for the past month and I love the creaminess of the red lentils. I add fresh spinach, carrots to it. I make it without onion or garlic but add Indian spices, cardamon, ginger and turmeric. Thank you for sharing your recipe.
I am definitely going to make your soup!
Thanks for encouraging more recipes!! Hope it brings you comfort and joy :)
This was delicious! And I am thinking (serves 6) at least from what I did. The lime is the SECRET SAUCE!

Red lentils I used. Ask me in 24-49 hours 🤣

I'll do my best with the snow...LOL! And yes, love packing as many veggies as I can into soup.

Thanks, Jenn. Yours sounds so yummy too. Have you tried adding coconut milk? With the Indian spices it is sooooo good!
Yes, forgot to mention that. I am dairy free so coconut milk is my go to for a lot of recipes.
Looking forward to making this soup! Thank you for sharing. 🩵
